AH-64 APACHE

The AH-64 Apache is the US Army's principal gunship/antitank helicopter. It was the winner in the 1973-76 competition for an Advanced Attack Helicopter (AAH), beating out the Bell YAH-63 entry. The AH-64 Apache is intended primarily for the antitank role, with an all-weather/night operating capability. It is relatively fast and maneuverable, carries a large antiarmor weapons load, has reduced radar and Infrared (IR) signatures, is damageresistant against most small and medium antiaircraft artillery, and is crashworthy.........more

MI-24 Hind/35 Gunship

The Mil Mi-24/35 is a large combat helicopter gunship and low-capacity troop transport operated from 1976 by the Soviet Air Force, its successors, and over thirty other nations. Its NATO reporting name is Hind and variants are identified with an additional letter. The export versions, Mi-25 and Mi-35, are denoted as Hind D and Hind E respectively. Soviet pilots called the aircraft 'letayushiy tank' or flying tank. Another common nickname is 'Krokodil' (Crocodile) due to the helicopter's camouflage and fuselage shape.........more
